There's a guy with Nerds On Call who constantly tells me that McAfee and Norton are really bad anti-virus programs. he says they're not gate keepers and do little in filtering viruses.
I'm using McAfee now and have used it in the past. I've also used Norton and have felt that both McAfee and Norton have performed well for me. If something, like a trojan tries to attack me, they catch it and remove it or quarantine whatever it is. I've NEVER been unhappy with Norton or McAfee. I've tried some of the anti-virus software programs the Nerds On Call guy recommends like CA, but I don't seem to like them much and given they're cheaper than Norton and McAfee, I question their ability to handle what needs to be done.
The guy with Nerds On Call thinks that my computer is riddled with viruses just given a few error mesages, which I've been able to resolve on my own, for the most part. (I'm unemployed and don't have a lot of money so I'm trying to be frugal in figuring out all of my own computer problems/issues.)
Just because someone gets 3 or 4 error messages, IMHO, doesn't mean they're riddled with viruses. Error messages can happen for a variety of reasons (conflicts in programs, incomplete installs, incompatibility issues, etc…).
The guy with Nerds On Call is telling me I may need a clean isntall and that'll run me a min of $314. It's $314 I just don't have right now and I question as to if my system really needs a clean install.
Sometimes, I wonder if these people with Nerds On Call and Geek Squad will go ahead and tell you just about anything to make you think you need to go ahead and schedule and appointment with them and even pay them to do XYZ. By the way, is their first response to everything your system is riddled with viruses and you need a clean install?
