Norton scanning problem with 2008?

I have norton 2008, i have reformatted my computer, then when i reinstalled norton, when i go to scan, it just says an error has occurred, it hasnt even started scanning, then it opens a seperate window saying help & support then it tells me to put in a CD key, it do that then when i go to scan, the same window pops up, anyone help? thxs in advance
