every time I try and update I get the error message LU1803 saying that live update failed and i need to re-install it. I un installed norton and re-installed it but i still get the same message. so how do i just reinstall live update?

It may due to improper un-installation.
You can try downloading Norton removal tool from symantec site http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039
Run it, restart and then install it, check ur systems date and time too.

I had the same problem with Norton and F-Secure, it happens because they both suck.

There should be instructions how to fix that on the Symantec website. There should be a link to the solution when the problem pop-up pops up.
