defragment your hard drive every week. go to my computer -> right click C drive -> properties -> tools -> defragment now
also run disk cleanup by going to my computer -> right click C drive -> properties -> disk cleanup
remove unnecessary software and programs in control panel -> add/remove programs
to see how much memory you have, right click my computer -> properties -> it’ll say how much memory you have.

faster processor with more cores will help
more ram will help, you can tell how much you have by right clicking “my computer” and it’ll show what processor you have an how much ram.
defrag the harddrives
get rid of unused programs
reinstall windows

re-install windows XP.
This will erase all of your files, but it will probably make your computer faster.
How much ram do you have? Adding RAM is a cheap way to speed up the computer. Go here to find out what kind you need: http://crucial.com/
It will run a scan and tell you what kind to get. Look on newegg.com or ebay for the best deal.

Have you run a defrag on your computer? Right click on the C drive and see how much space you have left. If you don’t have much space left then you need to delete files that you no longer need or burn them onto a cd and then delete them. To find out how much ram you have right click on my computer and go to properties. It should tell you on there. To get more ram you just need to go and buy somre from the store but you should take your computer into the shop and let them put the ram in. That way they can put the correct Ram into your computer.
Mcafee security is good to have do Not get rid of it

If you haven't run spyware scans yet we would suggest doing so. Spyware can slow the fastest computers. Also have you done a disk cleanup yet? If not go to My Computer and Right Click your C: Drive icon. Next to the pie chart will be a button that says Disk Cleanup and just follow the steps. We would also suggest Defragmenting your computer. Its in the tab that says Tools. Do it overnight though as it usually takes a while.
Memory can play a big part of this because how much RAM you have determiens how much you can do without slowdown. To find how much Memory you have go to START > RUN > Type dxdiag and it'll tell you how much Memory you have.
You can only get more Memory by buying actual computer hardware, theres no place where you can download it.

RAM and hard drive space are two different things. Physical memory (RAM), keeps frequently used lines of code closer to the CPU so it doesn’t have to fetch everything from the hard drive. The reason for this is that reading everything directly from the hard drive would make the simplest tasks on today’s computer take a lot longer, since it takes longer to access the hard drive than it does to access the RAM.
U can see how much available hard drive space u have by opening My Computer, right clicking ur C: drive, and clicking Properties. u can see how much RAM u have by hitting Control-Alt-Delete. The Task Manager will open. Click the Performance tab up at the top of the window - ur available and total RAM will be listed in that section, as well as the size of ur page file and a few other things.
The only way to get more RAM is by buying more, and the only way to get more hard drive space is to buy another hard drive. If u have a lot of junk installed on ur PC, though, u can delete what u don’t use or don’t need and that will free up space on ur hard drive that u already have but is being used. Open up My Computer and click Search. Select “All File and Folders” and click go (don’t type a file name or anything). It will start listing everything on ur computer that isn’t hidden. Click the Size column up at the top to list all of the files and folders by size so u can see what’s eating up the most space.

Well you can check how much ram(memory) you have by right clicking on My Computer, going to properties, and then under the general tab at the bottom it will tell some basic information about your computer (Processor Type and Speed, Ram)
In terms of speeding up your computer, there are a variety of things you can do, but it depends on your problem. Defragmenting your hard drive is an option; if your hard drive is highly fragmented this could help speed up your hard drives read speed.
You can try uninstalling any unnecessary programs, some programs leave an agent or programming running in the background even when you’re not using it. Too many of these can lead to slow downs.
It’s really dependent upon what your problem is, and where you are experiencing slow downs.
Try googling ‘Computer Spring Cleaning” or something to that extent and a lot methods that might help ’speed’ up your computer might show up. Good luck!
In the worst case scenario, you can always try formatting; gives your computer a fresh start just like new
(Only format if you know how to and can reinstall the necessary software)

1. Your system should tell you how much ram you have when it starts up.
2. you can also check this in system information (Start>Programs>accessories>system tools>system information)
3. If you do not want to buy more ram and install it, you can try removing any unneccesary programs that are running, and try freeing up some disk space by uninstalling unwanted programsm, and deleting any other files you don’t want/need, then running a disk defragmenter on your hard drive.
4. If you are having problems with the system crashing you can also try updating your drivers.
