After all my research I have come to the conclusion that these 2 are the most recommended. BUT…I cannot figure out if the ESET Smart Security or the Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 is the way to go because I see that there is the ESET NOD32 and the Smart Security are 2 different things and the Kasperskys have some IFFY reviews depending on which on Anti virus or firewall? I AM PULLING MY HAIR OUT!!!
What I need is a great anti virus (if the firewall is GREAT then good, I dont have a firewall) and one that does not put a big drain on my computer RESOURCES because I am using it on an old laptop which has only 1Gb Ram and is slow. H-EL-P- PLEASE!

Nod32 and Eset is what I would go with. The detection rate is one of the highest and most of the things it doesn't detect, it will stop the virus when it opens because it has great hueristitics. Kapersky is pretty good but Eset's smart security has a better firewall.
Nod32 uses very little of your resources, Kapersky uses a little more.
If you don't have a firewall (which I doubt) get the Eset Smart Security, if by some miracle you find Window's built in firewall get Nod32.
Only two problems with what you said, Windows comes with a firewall and two 1gb of RAM is not little, my computer runs very fast with 1gb.

i agree with him
but nod32 don't take a lot of ram or slow the pc down like kas
and you can find easily cracks and serials for it

I suggest you just use the software that you can understand and is easy to use.
And for God's sake dear, please get a firewall. You don't know who is hacking into your computer.
If you download any security software, just check what OS it will run on and the system requirements.
Also look on the net to see what the maximum amount of ram you can get installed into your laptop.

If you need a firewall and if you go with Kaspersky then you need "Kaspersky Internet Securtiy" 2009 8.0.0.506. Kaspersky Anti-Virus has no firewall you will have to install a firewall like something from Comodo or Zonealarm.
