Ok so I have several questions I need addressed to if you please :P. First my story: I went to apply for my US passport today, but I just remembered I forgot to put down my Social Security Number on the passport application, and I need my passport in 3 weeks!!! (July 7th)
My Questions:
1.) Will it matter? Someone told me that they don't really need it because they don't put your SSN on your passport.
2.) What should I do? Should I go back to the post office tomorrow? But they must of shipped it off my now :(. Should I just call them? OR should I call the place where they process the passport?
3.) If I call them and they ask for my SSN, is it safe to give it to them VIA phone?
4.) Do you think I can fix this problem VIA phone?
5.) Do you think this will delay my passport processing time significantly? Or is it an easy problem to fix? And do you think I will still get it by July 7th? It's not expedited, but they lady told me to expect it within 2 weeks.
THANK!!

It may just slip by. If it doesn't, they will notify you by mail or phone that they have rejected your application. I'm not sure if they will let you give them your number over the phone, it depends. They may ask you to start from scratch, in which case you should do it expedited.

question #1. yes it will matter, it's the only way you can prove you are a legal resident of the U.S.A
Question # 2 . yes you should go back to the post office and tell them you forgot to put your SSN on your passport application. Do not call them .
question#3. If you call them I t is very unlikely they will ask for your SSN. I wouldn't trust anyone with my ssn so don't ever give your number over the phone.
QUESTION#4. You may be able to solve the problem over the phone but like I said earlier ,I wouldn't give my ssn to anyone ver the phone. It is best that you just return to the p.office and solve the problem by talking to the person you submitted the passport application with.
Last questions. Only if you act promptly and don't delay going to the post office and speaking with the clerk there will you have a chance of getting your passport by the date you mentioned, any delay will mean a delay in getting your passport.
