For some reason on the bottom right bar there is a red sheild with an X in it and when I put my mouse over it, it says You have a security problem and there are continuous annoying pop ups that want me to buy antivirus, spyware etc from various websites. I used my Mcafee scan and it says I have 0 viruses/PuPs How can i get rid of them?
Thanks but how do I get rid of the pop ups?

If McAfee can’t find it, then nothing will. You could always try AVG http://free.avg.com
If that doesn’t find it.
Re-install your OS. Best SURE way to remove virus’s/adware/spyware/malware etc.

Try using various antiviruses…one at a time to scan…and scan them in safe mode…try avg…if its a spyware…get spyware doctor..just google it and download…remember …safe mode…
if all that doesnt work…best thing to do..is reinstall ur OS…no viruses…no crap…

That fake antivirus IS a virus and if McAfee’s not picking it up, that’s a bad sign. You may have to reinstall your operating system.

macafee is rubbish, I used it for ages and then had a few problems, it was uptodate and everything, so I uninstalled it and got kaspersky, did a scan and it picked up half a dozen viruses, a couple of trojans and tonnes of other crap that macafee failed to notice. I would get a better anti virus program. is the red shield not something to do with windows defender warning that your antivirus isn’t working

Ah, you have been infected with rouge software. Here's how to remove it:
First, download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, install it, and run a full scan:
http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php
Then try SUPERAntiSpyware free edition and run a full scan:
http://www.superantispyware.com/superantispywarefreevspro.html
If your machine is still infected, you'll need to use a powerful (and slightly dangerous) tool.
Download ComboFix here:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix
Then, boot into Safe Mode. Then open up ComboFix, type in 1 to bypass the disclaimer if you need to, and then press enter to start.
With all that, you should be able to remove the infection 100%. The popups will be gone, your machine will run faster, no more of that nasty crud, etc.
To prevent future infections, download ThreatFire (http://www.threatfire.com ) to complement your virus detection, and also switch to the Firefox browser. (http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/ ) Make sure not to visit any sites that seem suspicious. Just in case you don't have it, try downloading McAfee SiteAdvisor for IE and Firefox.

If you can not find it anywhere else in your computer,
go into your Control Panel and go to add/remove programs. look for anything suspicious.
the name of the spyware that pops up might be in the name. and it usually sounds suspicious so find it and click on it than install.
you might need to check your browsers ad-dons while you are at it so it doesn’t come back.
to do that on your browser click on tools than on manage add ons. and again look for anything suspicious.
and investigate anything not signed.
