after i formated the drive using the xp disc, i restarted it and when it installs it has problems copying some of the files, it asks me if i want to skip it and such, and i can’t do a system recovery either, i also don’t have the disc. can anyone help me please? oh and if i find the disc will it bring my computer back to its original purchased condition?

It could be that the XP disk you are using is scratched or otherwise damaged. Even fingerprints on the disk can prevent it loading. Do a visual check for this.
Another possibility is that the cd lens is dirty preventing it from reading properly. Try running a cd lens cleaner in the drive.
If none of this works it may well be a hardware issue, cables, optical drive hard drive or even motherboard.
I’m not sure about the a1510, but a lot of the HP machines came with the recovery on the hard drive. Might be worth rebooting and tapping the F10 key to see if it boots in. The chances are though, if you’ve formatted the drive, the recovery partition would have been wiped if it existed.
If you do have a recovery cd, and it works, then yes, it will restore it back to how it was when you first bought it.
