I am a student at a state university and the university provides McAfee VirusScan 8.5i to all of its students to offer virus protection; however, the program does not open, scan, or monitor my computer. If I select to run the console, etc. nothing happens. If I turn on continuous protection, the icon appears on the tray and then disappears upon moving my mouse over it. What is causing this and how can I fix it? I though maybe this was the result of a virus infection but my computer seems to be operating normally. If it is an infection, how can I fix it if I am not able to run virus scan software? I even tried running a web-based scan through Symantec which appeared to have failed because it almost immediately says “no infection detected.”

No no no. All you need is AVG - Ad-Aware - Malawarebytes It’s all free and it all dose the trick. Why pay out ? And have more problems.
