I was given a tip to remove my Symantec AntiVirus from my computer, as it can cause alot of problems. I went to add/remove programs from the control panel and clicked "remove" and in the middle of the uninstallation process it freezed up. I had to shut down my computer and try again, and the same thing happened. 3 times in a row. So I quit trying and left the computer and came back a few hours later. About 10 minutes later while I was on the internet, the speaker started making a really annoying constant "Thp.. Thp.. Thp.. Thp.. Every second, followed by my computer freezing. Now my Symantec icon on the bottom right corner has a yellow exlamation point on it. I’ve been dealing with this problem for a week now, and I just can’t take it anymore. I tried removing it again and it says "Preparing to install…" (Although I’m uninstalling it) followed by "The feature you are trying to use is on a network source that is unavailable.
Click OK to try again, or enter an alternative path to a folder containing the installation package ‘Symantec AntiVirus.msi’ in the box below.
Use source:
\\Lmnav02\vphome\CLT-INST\WIN32\
Then when I exit out a box comes up that says "The installation source for this product is not available. Verify that the source exists and that you can access it."
So I went to the Symantec site and downloaded a tool that will help completely uninstall Symantec. It said that I had to remove Symantec AntiVirus from the add/remove programs…. Ugh…
I have version 10.1.6.6010.

I don’t have an answer to your question, but . . .
A few months back, when I had a major crash and had to take my pc to an expert, he rebuilt everything and left Symantic Antivirus out. He told me it was difficult to remove and that he recommended against it. So, he installed a different antivirus package and I no longer have SA.

Norton has a tool you download to remove all the software and files for Norton Internet Security.
I have used Norton Internet Security for yrs. with no problems and very good support the one time I need to ask a question.
Go to http://www.symantec.com/norton/downloads/index.jsp and at left bottom under support click removal tool.
Good luck.

I have the exact same problem, the problem as stated above is that the removal tool does NOT work. and a search does not reveal the symnatec files on the computer (probably deleted incorrectly) Did you ever succed to remove symnatec antivirus?
