Problem with Windows XP "No Wireless Networks Were Found"?

July 19th, 2008 · 1 Comment

I just had cable installed for my Internet today. They don't assist with the installation of the Router, just the modem (I am hard wired to the Internet at the moment, not "WiFi" I just moved to a new location and bought new equipment. When I first bootup, my computert says "Wireless Networks Detected" but when I right click on the icon, it then says "No Wireless Networks Were Found in range". There are a dozen in this area that are in range, not to mention mine , which is only 7 feet away!!

Previously, I connected to the Internet with Cingular either through a "GSM" tether with a cell phone or used WiFI through their "Communication Manager". That software detected and showed ALL of the local networks. I could connect to my sons WiFI with it yesterday!. As I cancelled that service 3 months ago, the software expired today (If you don't login in 3 months the Communicator expires) . I completely deleted it to resolve any conflicts. Why the "mixed signals" and what do I do now?
The Router is NetGear WGR614 and the cable Modem is LinkSYS CM100

Try the "Refresh" option on the wireless network screen.
Also check your hardware devices settings using Control Panel > System.
