Problem With Windows XP Service Pack 2?

Although I liked to think of myself as a computer expert, there's some things I even need some help with,

I am trying to fix my aunt's computer, a Mircosoft XP which i belive only has service pack 1 based on the way it works compared to my newer XP.

I looked to download service pack 2, but it recommned the free scan first. it found 731 problems. most of them where filepath errors, it recomnds i should not download Service Pack 2 while there are errors, but it would only fix 15problems out of the 731. i need to know some safe tested guide to fix the problems and allow me to download SP2 so i may also get Windows Internet Explorer 7. Can anyone help me?
