My Norton trial expires in 5 days, and the IT guy that I work with said to download the free version of the AVG Anti-Virus. Has anyone had any experience with this? I would really like to avoid spending money if at all possible.
Thanks!

The free version of AVG Anti-Virus is one of the best. Works on mostly all Windows computers. I would consider buying the full program.
Maybe this link will help: http://anti-virus-software-review.toptenreviews.com/avg-review.html

AVG is a great anti-virus program. I've been using it for about 10 years with no complaints.

I went to AVG a couple of years ago, just like you because Norton subscription was running out.
I found AVG to be better than Norton, it uses less resources.
and its Free!
At least give it a try, there are other Free AV programs out there also. All Free. Norton is a rip-off imho.
Good luck

I put it on every computer I build, repair or clean up.
I have never lost a system to a virus once it is on there and kept updated.

I have been using AVG for two years by now, I always hated norton.. For reasons such as, it interferes everywhere and everytime…
Get AVG, its free (well the free version) and it can recognize the same amount of viruses that norton can. You get an update every 2 or 3 days, those go smooth and without worrying, all in the free version!

I can't give complaints about it so I don't see any reason for why you shouldn't get it

I've been using AVG's free version for about 5 years. I find it quite acceptable. Just make sure to keep the virus definitions up to date and it should work just fine for your. Here is a link to their download page.

I have used the AVG free Anti-virus for about 6 months and found it very easy to set up and use. You just go to the AVG website and download the free 08 version. I hope this helps you.

If you choose AVG, and you have a firewall installed and running, I would advise you to make sure AVG is on the "allowed" list, as you might have a problem running updates for virus definitions if the updater can't connect to the internet because the firewall blocks it. If you keep your antivirus up-to-date and run scans on a regular basis, you will have a much better chance of keeping your system free and clear of nasty pests. Two days ago, I downloaded and installed AVG v.8. On my first full system scan (at 5:30 this morning) it found a trojan downloader, which was promptly deposited into the virus vault. It's entirely my fault that it slipped thru my watchful eye. I hadn't run a full system scan in a couple of weeks, simply because I've been busy and let it slide. Big no-no. Schedule those scans often, keep the definitions updated and get familiar with what is on your computer. Check your add/remove programs often, familiarize yourself with what you know is supposed to be on your system and you will spot new items quickly, therefore alerting you to the possibility of covert activity going on behind the scenes. Google anything you aren't sure about, and post to a forum that can help you figure things out. Bleepingcomputers.com is an excellent problem-solving forum.
