For me, I prefer Norton than Windows Firewall. Windows Firewall is too simple and not so many configurations to play like in Norton

      go for Norton Firewall…

The free Windows Firewall came out in the Windows XP Service Pack 2… It is the MOST basic inferior firewall as a slight help to consumers/users in a gross ignorance of pc security. It was beefed up some in the Vista free Windows Firewall. When the XP version was released, the industry made the addtions as a convenience to customers to automatically turn off the Windows Firewall when you install theirs. You CAN NOT have 2 firewalls (or more) running on the pc. Most times will be a frozen desk top from this. After about the first year - now ALL new firewalls installed will automatically turn off the Windows Firewall by default. It was first advertised as a new convenient feature for point of sale even.

In real world, the Windows Firewall is only the most basic protection against a direct hack into the pc to commit damage.

Norton Personal Firewall has about the best "Trusted Applications" list - which then gives least amount of pop ups for approvals. As it monitors known and trusted softwares (Trusted Applications List) Norton is very good to not keep on buggin you for every process inter crossing through Windows\system32 (Dynamic Links Library). Norton PF is very mature from my experience with it. It in other words knows what is doing what without bugging you. If you get a pop up you pay attention to that with a good quality firewall. It is doing its job as designed to.

Comodo is more agressive and rated as about best and gives more pop ups then others because the user wants full control of communications to examine them to examine why a program may suddenly out of the blue try and gain internet access (malware infected).
