Ok, so I have Windows Defender as an anti virus software…I know that 2 anti virus software programs on one computer will cause them to "fight"….
should I un-install Windows Defender and install AVG?
thanks

Windows Defender is not an anti-virus, its anti-spyware., And yes you can have both, so install AVG if you want, not the 7.5 version though, because updates are done at the end of the month, and it will no longer be supported, Get the new version AVG 8 free, at the link provied.,

Just use Windows Defender. I have used it since it came out in Beta, and have never had a successful attack from anything.
Remember…You are the most important part of your Security. I don't use anything else either.
You do not need to remove other antispyware or antivirus programs to run Windows Defender. Other programs or Windows Defender might prompt you to allow or block an action, but there are no other known incompatibilities between Windows Defender and other antispyware or antivirus programs.

Defender is anti-spyware only. It is NOT an anti-virus.
I suggest that you keep Windows Defender and add a good anti-virus app.
I would strongly recommend Avira AntiVirĀ® PersonalEdition Classic. It has excellent heuristics, a virus detection rate that is better than most "paid-for" anti-virus programs and is light on using your computer's resources. Uses less then 10 MB RAM on my machine. And did I mention that it's free for life! Works great on my Vista box, too.

Avoid anti-virus AVG (free version). It is wildly popular with children and the computer illiterate but has tradionally had the lowest virus detection rate of all the popular free anti-virus programs.
Good luck.
