Since I'm stuck with Norton for another year, are there any functions on it that i can disable that will make my internet faster? Any tricks besides dumping it outright? Or can I add RAM? I'm not too savvy with this stuff. Thanks in advance.

you're never "stuck" with anything. you can simply uninstall the Norton software and install better, free software to protect your computer. i use AVG free for anti-virus and Ad-Aware for anti-spyware protection. both are good, take less resources than Norton (and McAfee) and are really stable.
