retrograded from vista to xp pro on my desktop. and no sound. tried the soundmax driver download but no luck!?

no little speeker icon in my tray even! i-tunes wont play anything, videos wont even start! says audio cvonfig not found!

      This is one of the problems when downgrading to XP from Vista. Since the system was designed to operate on Vista, there may not be an XP sound driver available.

      assuming you have the right driver for the sound card, you must first install Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) High Definition Audio class driver from microsoft. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/888111
