Id would just Format the hard drive, and do a complete reinstall of the OS. It would probably be the easiest and fastest.

      Good luck

The simpliest way to fix this is to reinstall Windows. You can backup all the stuff you want on a portable hard drive. If you do not want to do this you can find a virus scanner at bestbuy.

Have you tried this program and scanned for viruses? You mentioned that you got rid of the adware, but it sounds like its a virus. Try this.

Search the website some more if this does not do the job.

When you get these probs do all your scans in safe mode because viruses that are running cant be removed.
      Run anti-malware, this ones free

      it’s not a virus

      It’s basically a malware/adware/spyware problem

just download Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware from http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

      and scan you system
      After scanning,remove the problems found

Nowadays, getting rid of viruses and trojans using anti virus programs dont work. It will get rid of them momentarily but they will return or some other program will detect a new threat. Just reformat your computer, its easy and painless. I hope your friend has a windows disc or one you can lend to him because the amount computer shoips charge to reformat is ridiculous. Hope this helps.

If he has the Operating System install disc, then I would just completely wipe the hard drive and reinstall Windows.

That’s the only way to know that a virus is completely gone.

I have “Spyware Cleaner 2008″ and “Kaspersky” on my home PC.

Sounds like a job for superantispyware! Visit superantispyware.com and download the software of the same name. This genericly named software performs outstandingly! I’ve been recommending it all night. After your friend gets the problem resolved have them get a copy of bufferzone from trustware.com, it will help prevent problems like this in the future. It costs $40 for the Pro version and in my opinion it’s worth every penny and then some.

Well, I had that same virus too. It was a big pain in the ass! I had formatted my PC that time… But, what you have to do is Download Malware Bytes… It is a really good antivirus but if you have one antivirus already, then you will have to delete one antivirus. Because if you keep more than one antivirus, they will fight with each other. LOL.
If Malware Bytes does not work, locate the virus file and try to delete it. If it does not get deleted, then open you computer in Safe Mode and delete it.
How to open your PC in Safe Mode: Restart your computer, and simultaneously press the F8 button. And simply choose Safe Mode. Yes, Safe Mode, WITHOUT anything else.
      Hope that helped :D

Avast!, the free antiviral program…worked great for me.

Try loading the computer in safe mode, then running the antiviral program from there. It is one of the “f” keys that you hold down when right when you turn the computer on, “f6,” “f8,” etc, depending on the computer.

Hijackthis is also a great program to remove viruses, but make sure you don’t delete any programs with it that’s vital for your computer to run.
