The answer to this question is always yes. You should absolutely uninstall Limewire. It's a horrible method of filesharing. '
And yes, there are many other methods of putting music on your iPod. You can use iTunes if you want. I've recently been using foobar2000 as a music manager, and I'm pretty happy with it, so that's another option if you don't want to use an Apple product.
I would just like to point out to you the extent of the deceptive, and practically brainwashing mindset that Limewire instills in its userbase as evidenced by you asking if *UNinstalling* Limewire will cause your computer to be slower. Think about that for a moment. Do you now realise how crazy that sounds? And that is why nobody should ever use Limewire; it really screws with people's sense of logic.
It will, indeed, bring back a bit of HD space. It will also allow you to utlise whatever amount of RAM would have been dedicated to Limewire for other purposes.

Absolutely get rid of Limewire. In addition to illegally downloading music, you risk downloading viruses, worms, cookies, and who knows what else.
