If you subscription is current with Norton the don't un-install it just yet because you've paid for it wait until the subscription runs out then download Avast, don't forget to un-install Norton before you install Avast

DOWNLOAD AVAST. Trust me, Norton is a big pain, it bugs me with alerts and can be costly. Avast is free and constantly updates. Once you have installed it you will know exactly what to do. When it loads up for the first time it guides you through what button does what!
Go to this link to download the latest version: http://files.avast.com/iavs4pro/setupeng.exe
You will not regret it but chose whatever you are most comfortable with using.
P.S. Remove Norton first before installing Avast.

Id reccomend you decide to be honest.

Look at the anti virus software information, and see and judge. The website gives you info on how many times it been downloaded and the rating users have given it.
At the end of the day i prefer Avast, because i like the way it works, some people dont.

Hmm…
If you have a virus at present, then Norton Anti-Virus isn't doing its job. I also use Windows 2000 Professional and have installed Avast! Anti-Virus at one time. Their program and its features are great, but you must remember, you get what you pay for. In the Avast! program it has a feature used to duplicate all of your files in case of a virus, then it just replaces the infected file with a copy. Sounds good huh? But if you check the folders for Avast! using Explorer, you won't find any copies on your HD. So where are your copies? Probably in a database kept by Avast!. I don't like the idea of my privacy being invaded that way. I also found it to slow down my computer, this is true because after un-installing everything worked fine. Do as you feel led to do, but I wouldn't recommend Avast! to anyone, regardless of their awards and accolades.

I think I should say some words in support of avast! anti-virus.
First, its home edition is a full-featured product, with real-time scanning and automatic updates. There are no that many free AV's with such options.
Second, its user interface is appealing - easy to find settings, easy to configure. I find TrendMicro 2008 and McAfee less user-friendly, though they are paid-for apps.
Third, if you look at this comparison chart:
http://www.av-comparatives.org/seiten/ergebnisse_2008_02.php
you'll note that avast showed a 97,6% detection rate. Clearly there are AV's with over 99% - but BitDefender and McAfee fall behind avast, and they are world renowned PC security vendors!
Finally, if you accompany avast! with some antispyware, and set up a firewall, you're pretty secured against Internet threats. Not to mention the low usage of system resources - quite a rare feature of modern AV's.
