Should I download AVG free edition from download.com?

July 17th, 2008 · 11 Comments

I don't know, cuz when I try from the main site it tells me I need a licence number. I don't have one and I'm afraid the one from download.com will give me a virus. What should I do?
O and I'm downloading 8.0

If its the free edition then its fine, there are no viruses at download.com as they check all programs before putting them out there for people to use. The one from the site is probably trialware or the full version of the program.

Try my virus protection article: http://flashcreations-faq.blogspot.com/2008/06/best-protection.html
There are ones that have higher detection then AVG. Also to, I do not trust downloads from download.com. You just never know what they might have.

avast from download.com….avg is junk ….. false positives 82% detection rate a joke …. i use avira …. i like alot … but avast not bad either ….download.com one of the better if not the best tech sites around using for years …….

you should get a friend who has AVG on their computer and still have the installation process, if your friends have it, you better copy it to your USB and that is the best way, and at the same time you know you are not having any virus.. :D

You are better off getting it from AVGs site, are you sure you are on the page to download the free version?

EDIT: Include link to original free version

Download.com is a highly respected site and you will NOT get any viruses or malware downloading from them.

As for AVG….your choice, but i would go with Avast with its higher detection rate, realtime scanning, anti-rootkit, anti-spyware and self defense:

      AVG:

Download.com is as safe as a download site as exists.

That being said AVG is really mediocre at best.

Mostly n00bs, the naive, the computer illiterate, and children use AVG Free. People of their ilk love AVG because they say it is easy to use and almost never bothers them with any pop-ups or warnings. Of course AVG Free never bothers them, it hardly ever finds any virus to warn them about!

There are much better free anti-virus alternatives such as Avria Anti-Vir:
      http://www.free-av.com/
      and Avast:

Don't Worry download.com is pretty safe I haven't got a virus from that site ever I download from it a lot

You Can also try downloading it from the main site though it might be safer if you don't want to download from download.com
      (Will be in the source)

But AVG free edition isn't a very good virus protection program you should get Kaspersky Or something it is much more effective and doesn't just protect against virus's

Hope you figure it out. If you want Kaspersky Give me a shout ^^
