i’ve had a lot of problems with norton anti virus software and at the moment i am thinking about removing it. should i do this and replace it with a free version online such as avast?
Or are there any better free anti virus software that i can download free online?
If i should keep it, how can i correct the faults in it such as blocking programs without warning etc.

Avast and Avira rank as the best; Avast is *truly* free for home use, Free Avira has somewhat limited functionality (but is still very good).
Free AVG is a running ad for their paid version and has serious issues with real-time protection, cannot do a boot scan, cannot detect root kits, and cannot remove Trojans.
I have never used Avira myself, but Avast has saved me several times over - where Free AVG failed *miserably*.
If you are willing to pay, get either Kaspersky (perfect for the less experienced user) or ESET’s NOD32 (for the more advanced user)

DO NOT get Norton.
It is a very bad virus remover, for some big viruses like “Antivirus 2008″ or Win_____ or many other things, they apply themselves in the systems folder. It will not let you get rid of it if you do. Also Norton virus scan horribly slows the computer, and is very slow.
