When I bought my laptop computer last year, the Best Buy Geek Squad installed both of these programs onto my computer. Now with it almost expired, should I renew both of them which would cost about $60 all together (is it worth it and do they both have great reputation?), or should I go for the free downloads of spyware and anit-virus protection such as Spybot and AVG?? …or renew one of them and get something else to replace the other one? Any superior advice to help me out will be greatly appericated and thanks!

No don't waste your money on that junk. There are better free alternatives like AVG.

Everybody has an opinion. Mine is that the free products are not as good as some of the purchased ones.
I'm not that fond of Trend Micro, but I like Spysweeper a lot. I use Spysweeper with Antivirus on my computers. (I'm a tech, and I go to some dicey websites and I don't get infections.) If you wanted to go this way, you'd need to remove the Trend Micro, and renew your Spysweeper and add Antivirus (which is an option). Adding the AV will cost $10 more that just the Spysweeper, so you'll be looking at $30-$40 (I forget exactly).
AVG is a decent AV for free. Spybot (and AdAware) are just so-so on the anti-spyware, and not so good on the removal.
The other thought would be if the products you have are working for you, maybe you just want to keep them.

Neither Trend Micro or Webroot are any good in my own personal opinion as registered beta tester for antispyware, antivirus and other software that is not yet available to the general public. Spybot & AVG are both junk that has failed to keep up with todays spyware.
Save your money and download the free version of Avira antivirus from Germany. As a great detection rate of around 97.6%. http://www.free-av.com/
Here is and excellent free antispyware software that is true state of the art technology. Superantispyare, download and run and in depth scan. Free you must update on a manual basis. I use myself.
