I just reinstalled windows vista because of problems on my dell laptop and need to get a security system. I've heard that it might interfere with windows defender and wanted some expert advice? also what is the best anti-virus/anti-spyware software to buy?

No, the two will not interfere. Defender will just tell you when it is disabled, and will remind you to update it.

yes you should take if off beacuse windows defender is a protection for your computer. a virus protection if u wish to call that . it is very gud to have if u donot have a virus protction . but if u have a virus protection then you should disable it . to virus protections cancell out each other , beacuse the other virus protection will think the other virus protetion is a virus & will try to get rid of that , that would also mess up your computer. so do yourself a fav and disable it if u already have a virus protection

The best way to protect your computer is by installing an internet security program. This protects you against viruses, spyware, firewall. anti spam and much more.
I did test several different internet security programs over the last 12 months.
Here is my top 3
3rd place - Bitdefender Total Security - good - 8 out of 10
2nd place - Panda Internet Security 2009 - very good 8 ½ out of 10
1st place and in my opinion the best is
ESET Smart Security.- did find infections
the other programs missed - very good 9 out of 10
