the anti-virus has expired, but the firewall, spam, and intrusion notifications are still active and running.
In place of the norton anti-virus is AVG 8.
Just wondering if i should delete norton or not.
And if Avast is better that AVG 8

I'm not a huge fan of Norton. Actually none of them are truly the best. Unless you truly know how to tweak your system and research what ports you have open as opposed to what ports are necessary, you're still vulnerable no matter which one you use.
I use Avira, AVG, Superantispyware, and Spybot, daily.

YES!!! Norton is like a virus itself to be honest. It makes your computer run at like half speed. I have been working on computer for about 2 years now and I am a big fan of AVG. Avira Anti virus is also very good. But I would never suggest getting Norton.

most virus are spread through IE. IE is not a safe browser. you should use a more secure browser to protect your PC from virus.
i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can block any any popup and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE browser. as you know, most of virus spread throught internet and webpage.
besides, firefox is much smaller than IE, so it run faster than IE.
download firef ox for free, Just have a try:

AVG8 is a superb anti virus program. I have not tried Avast.
I believe in using programs such as AVG8 in place of Norton, McCafee and others that hijack you for annual subscriptions.
Norton gets pervasively into your system, it is difficult to completely uninstall. Add remove programs does not completely remove it, However if you are keeping the antispyware and firewall, you can probably uninstall the
antivirus with add remove programs, then install AVG8
Read through the instructions carefully, they will try to upsell
you to AVG internet security. You want the free edition
Be sure, upon installing AVG8 that you don't install the security tool bar, that is really an ASK toolbar and not necessary .

You should uninstall your Norton as fast as you can.Norton is one of the most overrated, and pitiful Internet Securities out there, and so is McAfee.Like I told you before,Norton is a Virus, and it slows down your computer.Trust me,you are not protected, and if your computer becomes infected,Norton will not get it off.
I can't really say if Avast is better than AVG.I'm not really sure. However,I have heard from various sources that Kaspersky was better than Avira,Avg,and Avast!
I recommend:
AVG 8.0
Avast
Avira
Kaspersky
I gave you the links on your other question.Good Luck!

I personally like Avast this is because of their constant updates to their anti virus database. Avast updates the database on your system more often then other AV's I have come across. As for firewalls I recommend Zone Alarm. Zone Alarm has not let me down yet and I make numerous financial and stock transactions daily. As for anti spy ware I use Lavasoft AdAware. All three products are free for personal residential use. If you want better control and more options though the Pro versions offer more features.
I hope this information was helpful in helping you in your decision.
