I need to pick an internet security system for my laptop (with Vista). The immediate options are to renew the Norton that came with the laptop for $60 for a year, or to install the Trend Micro that came with the laptop package deal I got, for $30. CNET gives Trend Micro a good review for average or basic coverage. Since budget is an issue for me, would you agree that Trend Micro will suffice, or would you warn me against potential problems?
Here's the Trend Micro CNET review…

I would use AVG free or AVAST. Its not worth paying for something when you get the same quality with freeware.
Also, add spyware blaster for added protection.-Freeware
All of these can be downloaded at Majorgeeks.com
Its a safe site i use often and reccomend highly.

TM vs. Norton?
From my personal experience, neither.
The reason is because they both make your computer a lot slower and more clunky. Free products like AVG, Avast, Clamwin do not provide full Internet Security. IS meaning everything from AV to anti-spyware, firewall capabilities and more.
Two MUCH better Internet Security products are Kaspersky and NOD32. They are what professionals and expert users are using these days.

As for budget, it's definitely worth the extra $5.00 (30 vs 60.00) a month for a year-long subscription to quality software instead of scrimping on such an important factor.
Make sure you use the Norton Removal Tool (latest version from Symantec) when you are uninstalling Norton.
