i have a windows XP media center edition 2005 Hewlett Packard and it freezes up at random points when im downloading, installing, or even using the internet. I even have Norton anti virus installed just in case and it still made no difference. My Desktop worked fine the first year o so when i bought it but now its slow, even when you go to 'control panel'. Everything you try to do on it just freezes it up for about a minute and then it downloads. Do all Desktops do this? also one last thing, everytime i try to run a scan, download something, or use the internet, the fans seem to not double, but TRIPLE in loudness. i feel as though everything i do on my computer is just slowing it down more and more. Does any one know whats wrong with my HP computer???

Configure your computer for a clean boot. To do this follow these instructions, go to start/run and type in "msconfig"
Select Selective Startup and un check everything except process WIN.INI File and, use Original BOOT.INI.
Then select the services tab and check the box hide all microsoft services and, disable anything that isn't essental.
Apply and ok then reboot.

You should take a look at this site: http://www.DeBog.com slow computer fixes. There are many issues discussed there.
There could be dust [actual dust] in your computer causing it to over-heat. You also need spyware protection - not just virus protection …
