Slow computer due to anti virus??

July 24th, 2008 · 7 Comments

I have AVG, Spybot search and destroy, spyware blaster, glary utilities and windows defender on my computer. It seems to have gone very slow lately. Would this be due to the amount of anti-spyware and anti-virus programs I am running? would they be conflicting? Any relevant answers greatly appreciated.

Yes, they may be connflicting. I'd keep the first 2 and eliminate the others.

They may be conflicting, and this may also cause problems with running other programs as the different anti-virus/anti-spyware programs may be blocking different things from opening. I just use AVG, and have no problems with it. =]

Sorry but they wouldnt be conflicting, you can have up to 3 anti-spyware programs, but remember only one anti-virus, as far as AVG goes toss that ,its bloatware and will slow down your system, get Avira AntiVir free, it catches about 94% of known viruses, with quick scan times, and wont slow your system., Good luck.

I would agree with other posters that all that spyware might be slowing you down due to conflicts. I use SuperAntiSpyware and it works great. It is free to home users.

      You only need
      One, Anti Virus program
One or two maximum! but one good one is enough, Anti Spyware program and.
      One Firewall…

I would keep AVG and SpyBot-S&D…Also, try clearing out all your browsers temp, history and cookies, and search history etc as this slows down PC, or simple use another one, which is fresh! This is a great way to test your PCs perfomance and also eleminate any browser problems..Also, some browsers are faster than others depending on each individuals user settings, How many toolbars and plugins they have, so Using another fresh one would show you immediate speed results and could easily let you know thats its your browser that could be the result of poor PC performance!

Once you have done this, run your PC through this best online "free" system scan, which will tell you what is slowing down your PC and tips to optimise and I use all the time and has been a great help to me!

AVG 8 - poor AV that eats CPU

Spybot search and destroy = antispyware program good but eats CPU.

      glary utilities - system tool.

windows defender = a poor antispyware program with real time protection.

      What i would do:

      Delete AVG
Download free Avast (better than AVG & Lighter)

Delete Spybot search and destroy & spyware blaster
Download: Comodo boclean, superantispyware & malwarebytes

then run glary utilities & do a defrag

      tip:

Spybot search and destroy is known to conflict with windows defender.
