My computer and internet are super slow and I’ve tried everything. I defragged the harddrive, checked for spyware, viruses, malware etc… and all is clear. And I have all updates on my computer. I even recently wiped my harddrive clean and reinstalled everything. What more can I do? I have a Dell Dimension that is only about 4 years old.
Thanks for your help!

Most likely you have a failing hard drive or a heat issue based on what you’ve tried. Make sure all of the fans are spinning (Power supply and processor)
Also download and run fresh diagnose and run a hard drive benchmark to see if the hard drive is performing up to speed.

Download this program http://www.ccleaner.com/
Run it to clear out all internet files and the like. Might help you since you did try everything else.

I’m guessing you still have Windows XP which means 64% of the people that use’s Windows XP has only 256-512MB or RAM. So getting more RAM for your PC should do the trick

DISK CLEAN
DISK DEFRAG
CUT BACK ON NUMBER OF PROGRAMS LOADING WITH WINDOWS AND RUNNING IN BACKGROUND
add more memory [ least a GIG ]
delete some of those restore points and use slider to bring back 10% of your hard drive and same for recycle bin
get back 20% free memory from these 2 applications

Go Here:
Start–>Control Panel–>Administrative tools–>event viewer, and open the event viewer.
A box will open up with a section on the right, and a section on the left.
In the section on the left, select “system” and wait for the section on the right to populate.
Look for any red warnings in a row with the same source. It sounds like you have a failing cdrom to me.
