What could be making my computer so slow?
It takes 3-5 times as long to load a simple application than it did a few weeks ago.
Also, whenever I'm using Mozilla Firefox, it always freezes every couple of minutes.
What can I do to make my computer run faster?
It doesn't do much if I remove software.
Should I reformat my computer?
Nikky- That actually is kinda my problem.
There's spyware on my computer that was tracked, but my anti-spyware or the tool I used to get rid of it couldn't get rid of it, and it got so bad it has infected my Anti-Virus and Control Panel.
Right now I'm thinking of reformating my computer, and just moving my files, pictures, music, etc., to my laptop until I fix my computer.
Katy- I have Avira, Spybot S&D, CCleaner, and Spyware Doctor and none of those could get rid of it.
Well I did fry some of my RAM, so that could be one of the problems.

I actually just went through this…
I had a bunch of viruses on my computer that were untrackable, they couldnt be deleted, or removed, so of course it was slowing my computer down alot.
I tried everything, running scans all the times, deleting all the programs I didnt need, and it still didnt help.
You can reformat, but if it viruses that are the problem, thats not going to get rid of the problem, they will still be there slowing your computer down.
I ended up having to get a new hard drive.
You can get a smaller one for around 70-90 dollars.
This will of course wipe everything out though, but its like starting over brand new.
Just make sure if you do do this, you save anything that you need, files, pictures, music ect…
Good luck!

hii..
actually my mozilla also freezes some times..
but that doesn't make my computer slow..
have you checked your memory condition on task manager.
check the available memory..
if low. then find what programs that use the memory..
if you dont need that program. you can kill it.
also check for background process and services.
cheers

Well increasing the memory of your computer increases the speed of programs and everything else that you do on the computer but it can also be viruses. back up any data that you have to save and reinstall your operating system and start fresh- if its still slow, see how much ram you got and increase it to at LEAST 512mb.
also make sure you buy the right ram. there are so many types

You have spyware. Run AVG anti-spyware, AVG anti-virus, CCleaner, cleanup!, and spybot s&d. All of these programs are available for free download. Google the name, download, install, and update. Run everything once and then run in safe mode.
This should improve significantly

try to defragment the comp and it might run slow cause of a virus u might not even know about so try to scan or get protection. if that doesnt help then get more memory or even a better wireless card for the internet or it might just run slow from old outdated hardware like integrated graphics (EEWWWW GROSS) or old processors. if it takes forever to start up then try to look into the hdd

There are a bunch of ways that you can speed up your computer. In fact you can get your computer back to it's "brand new" speed without buying any new hardware. Here are some tips:
