so I bought the norton antisecerity 2009, but its been installin on my computer for 2days! ?

My computer has a virus, so I bought the Norton antisercurity or somethin like that, it works for 3pcs so I installed it on my laptop, which installed fine! In less than 5min, but when I tried to install it on my computer, who already has a virus but isn’t so bad, I put in the product key and then it said there is another norton file instal in your computer, norton will remove it, so then it started scannin my computer and its been scannin it since sunday at 830pm I tried restarting the computer but it says norton is runin and if I restart I might loose information, so is this normal?
