I know it’s not legit, and I haven’t downloaded it onto my computer or anything, but how can I stop if from trying to download ITSELF?
Does the fact that it keeps popping up when I’m trying to go to a website mean that it’s already on my computer?
I’m trying to study for a very hard midterm, but I can’t when antivirus 2009 prevents me from accessing the sites I need. What are all the FREE ways I can rid myself of this, and any other trojans/spyware/malware/whatever?

Antivirus 2009 (or 2008, or Antivirus XP2009 or other names - there are many clones of this rogue software) is a piece of malware that infects your
computer and constantly pops up notices that you have an infection and you have to buy or update Antivirus 2009. This is a scam to trick you into paying
$30 for some useless software. The malware installed when you downloaded something from the web, sometimes masquerading as a video codec or other
useful software. It is persistent, and infects a number of Windows files.
Try running the cleaner programs in Safe Mode (hit the F8 function key as the machine boots up, and choose Safe mode)
If the malware is blocking websites or downloads, you may have to download the removal tools on another computer, and burn them to CD or copy them to a
USB Memory stick.

HOW TO REMOVE FAKE SOFTWARE, TROJANS AND VIRUSES:
Download, update and scan your computer with Malwarebytes and SuperantiSpyware, delete what ever they find, if this fails to completely remove the infection download then update Avast and run a boot scan (click schedule boot-time scan and restart your PC), all the software below is completely free and safe to use.
If your infection is proving hard to remove run SmitfraudFix following the guide below.
Malwarebytes: http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php
SuperantiSpyware: http://www.superantispyware.com/
Avast Anti-Virus: http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

To protect your PC in the future you need to use anti-virus software and a firewall, id recommend using Avast and Comodo Pro firewall both are very effective and completely free, you should also switch to Firefox 3 if you are browsing with IE as its much safer. (links on my profile)

Spybot Search and Destroy

it helped quite a bit. If you have a firewall running block all the programs from accessing the internet for a while, enable just the ones you need, If it’s the same one I came accross it also loaded a .dll into internet explorer making it just all the more fun.
