Hey guys i just recently had to DESTRUCTIVELY RESTORE my computer because i had a bad case of spyware.
i have a few quetions on how to keep my computer safe.
Now, i have heard of Spybot search and destroy and also Avast
1. after i downloaded avast, it goes to this installer and before it starts installing, my computer automatically restarts itself what happening??
2. Spybot S&D - is this a good spyware protector to use or is there a better. When i use spybot, it scans but then it says i need to register or pay use eliminate the spyware. So its not free?
3. Anything else that will keep my computer safe??

Did you downolad avast from the avast site or somewhere else? Go to http://www.avast.com and get it there.I use avast,threatfire and windows advanced care personal.All 3 are completely free and I have no spyware or anything on my computer.Why pay when you don't need to?

I recomend (if you have a legal valid copy of windows) to use Windows Defender as your primary anti spy ware program it is free no license required, just a quick windows Validation Proccess that is why you need an activated legal copy of whatever edition of windows you have. For anti-virus, i recomend avast or clamwin. Both are great (i use avast).

1. Did you install direct from Avast? Might be worth checking.

a.) Keep up to date with Windows updates - http://update.microsoft.com/
b.) Use a 3rd party firewall - ZoneAlarm is quite good.
c.) Keep all protection fully up-to-date and regularly scan.
d.) Use strong passwords on both Windows and any online accounts.
e.) Stay away from any suspect websites.
