svchost are executable files that run system processes in the background (you cant see them) such as network and firewall etc
upgrading the program doesn't nessicarily change the look or version of the program .
I'd be more concerned with what the name of the program is … Who makes it ?

You might have been infected by a trojan program (keylogger or similar stuff). What you might have downloaded is not the real upgrade, but some harmful stuff. Many trojan programs use an "svchost" process to gain access to your system from the internet. So my question is, are you sure you have downloaded the upgrade from the software product's legitimate website?. Or did you download it from some crack-sites or warez-sites (in which case you have high chances of downloading false programs instead of the real thing)?.
I recommend that you scan your system for spywares (as the "svchost" might have been installed by the spyware or trojan program that you downloaded). Then remove the infection.
Then try to download the upgrade that you wanted to install from the legitimate website.
