The truth is I’ve had a 64 bit quad core for the last 6 months and have been using 32 bit XP. I’m a heavy tweaker: I shut off all services and startup programs unless they are ABSOLUTELY necesary for my gaming experience. And whenever i check online for if it is safe to switch to vista or if it will be better and stuff, i always get old crap comparisons back from december 2006….
I want a new opinion… I got a 64 bit quad core, GeForce 8600 GT with 512mb and 2Gb of system ram, im hoping to install vista 64 and run almost exclusevly new games. I WILL tweak my windows vista to the limit and i don’t care if i have to replace my older programs for newer ones that actually work with Vista. With all of this in mind and knowing i do know my stuff about computers… will I get better results and nicer gaming / cooler experience by switching from Windows XP 32 bit to Windows Vista 64 Bit?
Thanks for reading

you should experiance a bit better experiance from vista. One of the best is the ability to use flash memory as part of your system memory. This along with the duelcore will make things very snappy, running direct x10 will make your video even cleaner.

I use vista and i got the same profile as you, and I used XP. vista is a loot heavier than XP no matter what you do. for it to run without killing the system you need 1GB of Ram. You got a pretty good processor and a Decent VGA, vut your sistem Ram is a little small. I got a C2D E8400 / 2GB RAM and a 9600GT and the gaming experience with Directx 10 is way better than XP. Also, the system got some nice features, and easier navigation. One advice thou, All these comentaries are based on the SP1 release, since the SP1 made the system Incredible faster for gaming. Just for you to know, i play The Witcher, Crysis, Mass Effect, Bioshock, NfS-Pro Street and Turok.
So, i recomend vista if you are planning in increasing the RAM to at least 1GB.
