My dad downlaoded this Symantec Anti virus software about a month ago. It's been doing fine up until yesterday…
It said that I had 42 viruses on my computer and that to remove them I had to register a license or something… i didnt get the license
Anyway after that the messages kept popping up saying my computer is at risk and so on…
Well I scanned my computer using a different anti virus software and it said that the Symantec Antivirus IS the 'virus'..
so i tried deleting symantec anti virus but it wouldnt delete..
So is it really a virus?? what should i do??
i cant dowlload any new antivirus software coz its like installs up to 99% and then suddenly shuts down saying there's a problem…
Help!!!
not sure if this helps but its a bit more about the verison i got..
Program: 10.2.0.224
Scan Engine : 71.4.0.15

well symantec's anti-virus is called Norton so if it doesn't say Norton then yeah its a virus. If a good anti-virus can't remove it then your going to have to do some reseach to find what to do to remove it that or you got to reformat

I just read an article on Yahoo News yesterday that there is a new Trojan virus that tries to uninstall your antivirus software. sounds like you got it… Check the symantec website for new viruses and update your scan profiles.

all traces of the old anti-virus must be erased before a new one can be downloaded. is it vista?

Hello Lynne,
It sounds like you have downloaded a rogue malware program. It will take a specialized program to remove this infection.
Simply uninstalling the program will probably still leave the computer infected.
A couple of months ago, I accidentally downloaded a program from somewhere that infected my computer with malware.
My malware infection was so bad, I thought that I would have to get a new computer.
It wasn't until I found a website in google that gave honest review of spyware and malware removers that I found Netcom3.
http://www.getridofspyware.info/netcom3/a4.html
I downloaded and registered it, and I couldn't be happier. It removed my malware infection, and also a couple spyware infections I didn't even know I had.
It has kept my computer running fast, and spyware free for a couple of months now. I highly recommend it.
The website I found can be visited above.
Hope this was helpful.

Im sorry but I have to disagree with the last answerer, Netcom3 is a scam.,According to my McAfee site advisor its a red site, so tread with caution, I have heard nothing but bad things about that product., get Spyware Doctor starter edition, its free from the link provided, and Spybot search and Destroy, and run them in safe mode., that should help with your problam., Good luck.,
