Text to speech - Vista - how?

October 7th, 2008 · 2 Comments

I’ve been messing around with this for ages but can’t get it to work.

Its supposed to read out words on the desktop, I can get it to read out what’s happening, or commands, but not actual text.

How can I get it to read out words in a Word file, or copied?

I’ve been able to find the software in Control panel, and also in Narrator.

But nowhere can I find how I can use this to read text..

Well, to get it to say sentences aloud, you have to be using Notepad or Wordpad, not MS Office Word. All you have to do is select the text you want it to say and it will read it.
Now if only they had kept the Stephen Hawking voice instead of the woman.

I like YAKiToMe! http://www.yakitome.com much better than the Vista TTS application because YAKiToMe! comes with more voices of higher quality. It also reads in multiple languages. Output is podcastable or downloadable. And it’s all free.
