The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\sajekeye.dll is not a valid windows image…?

April 6th, 2009 · 4 Comments

Whenever I start up my computer I get bombarded with dozens and dozens of these messages saying:

The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\sajekeye.dll is not a valid windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette.

This message also appears whenever I try to open any application. After closing the message the application will open.

Before this started I had had a problem with my start up and after fixing this problem these messages began appearing. Assuming this was a virus I have run multiple anti-virus/malware/spyware programs (the latest of which being Spybot SD) and found and deleted multiple Trojans. The problem is the messages are still there. I looked up sajekeye.dll and found that it is a Trojan file. So is this a virus that my programs have overlooked? I've tried searching my computer for sajekeye but I can't find anything.

I found a suggestion that said to reinstall firefox. I tried that but it didn't change anything so I have removed firefox completely. I still get the messages.

I have run out of solutions. Does anyone know what this is or how to stop it?

Hit start, run, and type in 'msconfig'

Go to the startup tab and remove all entries that you don't recognize.

You are getting those messages on startup because the files have been removed but there are still instructions in the registry to run them on startup.

sometimes cleaning your unwanted registry can help. here's a good registry cleaner:

Download some registry cleaner software. Regcure for example

      http://www.filesland.com/companies/ParetoLogic-Inc/RegCure-Registry-Cleaner.html

Then clean your registry from orphaned entries. If this does not help, open registry editor "Start="->"Run" >" type in regedit, then search fro the DLL name and remove all occurances of this dll. Particualry the one at "Windows//..//Explorer" key, this one launches it every time you start any other software

I know that you've already done a lot with this, but I would recommend trying Kaspersky, and reporting this in their forum. They offer free trials. When I had tried five different anti-malware programs to fix one of my PCs that got hit, Kaspersky was what ultimately did the job.

Here is a similar problem that was reported in one of their labs: http://forum.kaspersky.com/lofiversion/index.php/t84810.html.

(FYI, I don't get a commission from Kaspersky! I don't even own it. McAfee is my overall security solution since it's free from my ISP ;)
