right now, my money is tight, and I cant really afford to go out and buy a $50.00 set of software (yes, I know its only fifty dollars, but hey, dont judge lol). I use AVG anti-virus 8.0 FREE Edition right now, and so far, it has done me wonders. But, I have heard that since it is free, it doesnt have a real time scanner. SO, that being said, can someone pleaseeee give me a name/link to an awesome FREE anti-virus/spyware (in one program would be great, but if not, its cool) WITH an Active Scanner? thanks all!
ok, I'll give the free anti-virus a shot =p
but I noticed that it doesnt have a built in anti spyware. Can I get the name/link of a good, free anti-spyware? thanks agin all!

AVG Antivirus Free Edition has Auto-Protect feature, it has its own drivers installed for detection and elimination of viruses also you can scan it from command-line.
You can use Avira Antivirus Free Edition from http://www.download.com/Avira-AntiVir-Personal-Free-Antivirus/3000-2239_4-10322935.html?tag=mncol&cdlPid=10877501
It has the best protection (99.6% signature detection rate)! and is free! and also supports an active scanner.

I would suggest that you get Avast Home Edition version 4. It now protects against spyware, rootkits,
and other forms of nonvirus malicious software. Best of all, it’s free for personal use.
Avast is a very effective and free anti-virus program because it can do
a boot time scan in safe mode and it will remove the entire virus on your PC.
Even those viruses that hide inside the system restore folder.
Windows utilize a restore utility that backs up selected files
automatically to the System volume information /System Restore folder.
This means that an infected file could be stored there as a backup file,
and most anti-virus programs will be unable to delete these files. You
must disable the System Restore Utility to remove the infected files
from the folder if you use another brand of anti-virus. However, you do
not need to do so if you use Avast to do a boot up scan in safe mode.

I have used AVG Anti Virus, Zone Alarm Firewall, Spy-bot Search and Destroy a spyware killer for years. I have recently added superantispyware. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans Hackers etc. I have just upgraded to AVG free 8.0 and all seems good so far. Zone Alarm allows a lot of personal configuration unlike the Windows Firewall. They can all be downloaded from http://www.download.com/ I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly. Hope this helps
