Edward Norton is one of the few who in my opinion think of the art itself before anything else … He’s one of my favorite …. If he’s one of yours , what is your favorite movie , character and scene ??
Regarding Edward Norton of course …

I haven’t seen too much of his work, but I was highly impressed by The Painted Veil.

I 100% agree with you. I don’t have a favourite scene that comes to mind in particular, but I just love Edward Norton in general. His favourite films of mine are American History X and The Painted Veil.

100% agree, he’s not about the paycheck like so many others in his generation.
favourite movie American History X just ahead of fight club
and scene would be his speech at the dinner table in X when his mother has Elliot Gould over for dinner, very powerful.
hard to pick because all of his characters draw you in.

I love him in American History X. And also 25th hour…(when he saves the pit bull). I absolutely love Italian Job but wasn’t really liking his part in it. But yes.. he’s a great actor and I love action films.

Edward Norton is a great actor, I can’t take that away from him. My problems with him arise in how he views his own role in the making of a movie. I think that writers and directors, and to a lesser extent the cinematographers are the most important people in the making of a film. The rest of it is the medium. The actor has their interpretation of a character - but the director affects that interpretation more so than the actor in most cases.
The best example I can think of to illustrate Edward Norton’s controlling nature - and overstepping his role in the making of a film was in the making of American History X. According to some reports, the studio was unhappy with the director’s final cut of the film, but he refused to return to editing it. He felt he was finished and was happy with what he considered to be the best cut of the movie - he didn’t want to have to water it down or change it in order to better fit Hollywood, or what the studios felt would be a more successful film.
Edward Norton took it upon himself to go into the editing room - at the behest of the studios - and alter the cut. The changes he made are not known, except for to the director and Norton. There is obviously only so much he could do, but it is surprising how much a film comes together in an editing room. You can change the entire look and feel of a movie - distort its message or change it completely.
According to reports from the set of the Incredible Hulk - he wanted to do the same to that movie - as he was unhappy with the final cut and his role - or lack thereof - in it.
I appreciate him as an actor - I think he’s underrated, but at the same time, I think he has way too high an opinion of himself and his work.

Legendary? Not yet; he hasn;t reached that level.
He is a superb actor, especially with some fine role selection over the past few years
