The orange light infront of my PC is solid, and the computer is acting slow or totally freezes, it’s not virus

What's wrong?

Could it be the harddrive, I don't want waste $330 on a new HD and OS, just to find out it was something else, what do you recommend?

The light stays solid for about 3 hours, slows down and freezes for minutes every few couple of minutes. works normal for about 3 to 4 hours and malfunctions again, I noticed that it specially happens when i open more than one program at a time.

It used to work great till a week ago.

it's a 75 gb harddrive with 68 gb of free space. only around 7 gb used.
