Total Security Suites OR AntiVirus/Firewall/AntiSpyware?

April 29th, 2008 · 5 Comments

I was wondering which would be a better option:-

1> Installing one complete Security Suite such as Kaspersky

OR

2> Installing Kaspersky AntiVirus and Outpost Firewall and Spyware Doctor

I would install the Kapersky Security Suite. The reason I say that is because the Spyware, Firewall, Anti-virus detection, components were all written to work together.

Now if you were asking about a good Surround Sound system?? MIX IT UP!! Buy the best of everything.

      Good Luck!

All in one suite is better and lighter on system resources.

You can do it for free
AVG 8.0 free has realtime Virus and realtime spyware protection.

So does spyware terminator with the ClamAV plugin

Then get a firewall, Comodo, Outpost, Ashampoo or use Windows Firewall.

I would do the second, but first have you considered norton system works, or AVG has a free trial that you can dowload, but if you prefer the above, #2 sounds best, just make sure your system requirements meet

Suites are sometimes easier to use so are well suited to beginners but most have a good component (usually the anti-virus) and a weak component (usually the firewall, e.g. Norton and McAfee). Kaspersky is probably the best suite around as it provides excellent anti-malware protection and a very good firewall.

With 'anti-virus' programs such as NOD32, Kaspersky and Norton a separate anti-spyware program won't add that much extra protection so, rather than buy one, consider a freebie such as SuperAntiSpyware. You'll need to initiate updates and scans manually but it's no big deal. If you use NOD32/Kaspersky/Norton I doubt an anti-spyware program will ever find much.

There's two excellent firewalls which are free, OnlineArmor and Comodo v3, probably better than Outpost Pro or ZoneAlarm Pro. You might be able to save money, and get an even better firewall, by buying an excellent AV and using an excellent free firewall.
