I just bought a new HP computer from Best buy and with the computer I got both Trend Micro Anti-virus and Spy Sweeper . When I start-up my computer sometimes it takes like 3 minutes for trend antivirus to load and sometimes it doesn’t even load at all and i have to restart my computer. When it loads everything works fine but the problem is it doesn’t load. I know both antiviruses are not that good but i don’t want to buy new antivirus software. Which antivirus should i uninstall?

Spy Sweeper is fantastic. Hands down one of the best programs of it's type. That is the only thing that Best Buy did right. They get paid to sell Trend Micro which unfortunatly is one of the worst antivirus programs I've had to endure. If you're looking for a good program to use then try any of the following:
1) Norton 2009 BETA
-The new Norton is faster installing, less memory hungry, and less intrusive. I've been playing with it for a little bit and finally think that Norton has a winner! I recommend trying it for free and waiting for the 2009 release to purchase:

2) Kaspersky
-Kaspersky is right up there with Norton in overall quality but compared with the 2008 version runs a lot less hungry on the system. Also a worthwhile program to try:

3) Eset Nod32
-This program has captured a lot of people by storm and has a lot of enthusiasts singing its praise. Newever versions have also allowed for a more user friendly interface. Something worth trying out:

FREEWARE:
1) Best of the Freeware is Avira Antivirus:

2) Second Best of the Freeware is Avast Antivirus:

You can also find more top quality freeware programs in the blog listed as a reference. So good luck with your computer but I recommend keeping the Spy Sweeper with anything else that you might use.

3 trend micro antivirus problem // Sep 4, 2008
I just bought an HP computer as well and I am having the same problem. I have been trying to resolve it with Trend Micro but they always want you to delete the Spysweeper. I will keep you posted if I find a solution. (By the way its only going to get worse.. I even took it back to best buy but thing only got worse there.. Geek Squad doesnt know anything.)

Actually, it’s the other way around: the problem is with SpySweeper which equally claims it is NOT compatible with PC-Cillin. Trend Micro’s antivirus is fantastic, been using it for many years. SS on the other hand is INFAMOUS for having serious problems and a heavy load on the system. Just check what people have been saying about it since version 5.8. version 6 is absolutely dismal, I am seriously thinking of uninstalling it. It causes problems also with Firefox on occasion. To see how crap it is, they are having a 50% discount on it at Best Buy.

Get your facts right. Best Buy does not get paid to sell Trend Micro any more than they do to sell Webroot. That is just the program that they recommended to you to go with it.

hi,
norton 2009 has been a pleasure to use. I did use trend micro previously but i was experiencing
slow downs, so i made the switch after reading many positive reviews and have not regretted my decision.
Sometime ago i tested spyware sweeper but found it heavy on recourses and was bothered by the
alerts to renew the subscription. i recall also recieving email regards the program which was an annoyance.
I have tested sunbelt counterspy and i did like the program which offers a full 15 day trial and
was satisfied with the product.
there are a few freeware programs that are available, adaware se, superantispyware malwarebytes
spywaredoctor starter edition, spywareblaster, asquared, but these programs dont include a resident shield in the freware versions.
i realise that to purchase new security software is an added expense you shouldnt have to endure with a new system but sadly this is the case.
I recommend norton 2009 , sunbelt counterspy, malwarebytes free version and spyware blaster .
these programs offer good protection and should protect your system from harm.
kind regards,
Andrew
