Trouble installing avast virus protection, it starts to install then stops,any advice welcome?

  More info needed - Have you got an AV on the PC already ?

  yes I have had avast until a couple of days ago when the virus protection off notice appeared.

  If I understand you rightly you was using Avast & it was some how turned off - some viruses can attack an AV, do a free online scan & lets see what it finds:

  first uninstall any anti-virus or firewall or any antispyware and use these free programs.avast is very good but avira is the best.

  use these free programs and believe me they are the best.

  comodo firewall pro(go to firewall tab then stealth port wizard and choose to block all incoming connection(this won't affect limewire,bitcomet and etc)

  use mozilla firefox with ad-block plus add-on
