Trying to hack back into my wireless internet…?

April 27th, 2008 · 3 Comments

I have a normal internet box that plugs into the wall then on top of that is a wireless internet box that plugs into it and gives my house wi-fi. I had a password on it and my laptop and my brothers laptop are the only 2 computers with access to the password. Recently our computers both got a virus and we had to re-install everything. Now the password to the wifi is lost. Any suggestions how to hack into it or get the password back? thanks for any help!!~
thanks! hahaha i feel dumb now. the answer was right there.

Find the reset button on the back of the router, and hold it down for 10 seconds. It should be restored to its factory defaults, with no password.

Hacking isn't necessary. You can plug into the wireless router via any normal ethernet cable and access the it directly.

Once in you can configure it via a web interface, every router has one. It's normally one of these:

      http://192.164.1.11/
      http://192.164.11.1/
      http://192.164.1.254/

But you should check the documentation for your router and it'll tell you everything. If it asks for a password it's usually "root" for the user name and nothing for the password.

Again, check documentation as they all are slightly different. From there head to wireless network settings change name, password, channel… All of that.

No need to reset anything. Your wi-fi password is stored on the router itself not on the laptops. So if you remember the password, use the same to connect. Now if you dont remember your password, then yes go ahead and reset your router like the others said. Good luck
