AVG Free 8.0 is asking for endless restarts and the honeymoon in over. I am looking to get this off of my computer. I tried uninstalling it in normal and safe modes and tried Revo uninstaller as well. I keep getting the same message…

I am running windows vista home premium with Service Pack 1.
I also tried to install a newer AVG and got an error. How do I get it gone?

Try to uninstall it using the Add/Remove Programs feature under Control Panel.

if you have windows vista then hit the start buttton and in the "start search" tab at the bottom type in AVG Free and when it comes up then click the uninstall button.

you could uninstall it in unsafe mode(if there is).

The reason it is doing this is that you should by now have installed the upgraded 8.5 version. Go to http://free.avg.com and install the new version. At the option for repairing, select repair. This will get you a clean install. If you still want to change it gives you something to actaully uninstall clean. The above message indcates you have damaged a file somewhere. If you have problems installing, go to the all users profile and in the local/application data/ delete the AVG folder.

There's actually a free AVG removal tool so I suppose it must be a fairly common problem. I haven't tried it myself but I have used some of the other pc-utilities downloads with no problems.
