Turning on microphone for vista?

I got windows vista and i cant figure out how to turn on the microphone so i can hear it in loudspeakers… The mic is working fine can record stuff but i need to hear it in the loudspeakers…. a karaoke party is coming up soon n i need this to work :P here is the aswer
1.press your windows button
2.click on control panel

3.click on hadware and sound ICON (not the word)

—> there is no Icon named hardware and sound on my vista….
4.click on speakers ICON
5.click on PROPERTIES BUTTON
6.click on LEVELS TAB
7.click on mic ICON
8. now it's ready for KARAOKE
