WELL i have….had, actually lol…AIM. Version 6 (AIM 6). i never touched it, opened it, or whatever.
I have a Windows Vista notebook.
When i learned from other ppl that they were havin problems "uninstalling" AIM (any version it turns out), that they encountered problems or even a virus, or viruses (trojans i believe). Luckily i found this out before i actually went to try and get rid of the thing. I never use it and hey, AIM sucks.
So, today i decided to get rid of it. i actually tried to do the old method of uninstalling it… "Control Panel>>Uninstall a Program>> AIM" THIS DID NOT WORK FER ME AND MANY OTHER PPL. The uninstall process ended up freezing and encountering problems. Heck, when i went to virus scan the actual AIM application, windows "stopped working". Blah blah.
So to bypass all that extra crap i thought of something. Just delete the thing i say to myself. Now, i'ma tell you exactly how *I* did it:
1. turned off my internet connection (not sure if that had to do with anything, but thats what i did. i felt what the virus ppl said they discovered may have sumn to do with that)
2. I went to "Start>>>All Programs" …from there you should see all the programs you have on yer computer, from AIM to Games, to Microsoft Office to Quicktime and all that. Whatever you have installed ya see.
3. find the folder that says "AIM" or whatever AIM version you have. You should have a picture of a folder next to the word AIM if you use Vista. fer other users just look fer the Name and Icon i guess.
—-Vista Users: Click on the AIM folder you found in "ALL PROGRAMS" of yer Start Menu. you should get a drop down menu of all the AIM stuff. there should only be a few items there. But right click on the AIM Program (it will have the icon next to it) and on that menu, select "Open File Location". This will open all the AIM files including the APPLICATION, NOT just the shortcuts and add ons n whatnot. after you find that, hilite everything you see in that box. what i mean is "select all" or "CTRL + A". Then right click on the selected items, and hit "Delete". It will erase 1000 sum odd files (atleast, on mine it did). But you will run into one or two files that have "restricted access". i believe those are "AOL" files. my computer wont delete them, but i will find a way to do so. cuz i just think AOL sucks too. Anyway, you will have all the AIM files deleted. dont believe me? Check it: go to "Control Panel>>>Uninstall a Program>>>AIM" (the AIM ICON will still be there)… then try to uninstall it. it will give you an error message, saying the files have been replaced or deleted. then it will ask if you want to restore them. DONT LMAO. Then once you infidels find that out, go to yer recycle bin, and Empty the entire thing. All yer AIM crap should go. Then **RESTART YER COMPUTER**. Once you log back in, you can check in yer "Control Panel>> Uninstall a Program>>….NO AIM!!!!" The AIM program is totally gone…STILL DONT BELIEVE ME??? Go to "Start Menu>>> (My) Computer" You will open a window, and in the search box at the top right hand corner, type in "AIM". You will get nothing.
–NON Vista Users (NOT Macs…sorry, i dont know anything 'bout Macs): If its anything like the preceding versions of Windows, before Vista, you can take what i've given you above (from the Vista User directions) and apply them. it shouldnt be hard, but if not: Find the AIM program in "Start>>All Programs>> AIM" You will probably get an over arrow, meaning an arrow next to the AIM icon that will lead you to another sub menu. Right click on that AIM Icon fer the application. Then hit "Open File Location". You will open a new window with all that AIM stuff in it. Hilite (select all of) those files and after you do that…Right click again, then DELETE. You might run into the same "restricted access" thing like i mentioned above in the Vista User directions. you'll just have to ignore that fer now. AOL wants to remain "number one" at sumthing. and that something, i dunno. So after you delete those files, go to yer recyle bin and EMPTY the whole thing. THEN RESTART YER COMPUTER. like i said above, check to see if it is totally gone. And it should be.
have any problems lemme know. i might be able to answer them. Thanks. I dont have the answers as to how to fix whatever problems you are having with AIM. I just have the info on getting rid of the stupid thing.
