Unable to link to Kernel32.DLL problem?

Whenever I try to open up a game I installed, it says

Unable to link to Kernel32.DLL
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142). Click OK to terminate the application.

I tried switching the compatibility modes, but it still gives me the message.
I installed it on a Windows Vista computer.

Does any one know how to resolve the problem?
