uninstall Yahoo! messenger. strange problem…..?

I installed yahoo messenger on computer, and since then my machine has been acting very strange, and not to mention messenger never worked. it would start up the program, but i was unable to log on, so it just irritated me whenever i started my computer. so i would really like to get rid of it. there have been several answers relating to this, which are all basically “go to add or remove programs and uninstall it” the problem is, it does not show up in the add or remove programs list in the windows utility or in Ccleaner. i have checked both many, many times, so i didn’t just not see it, its not there. I made sure to download the program from the official yahoo site, so it isnt spyware or anything (at least i hope not…). if anyone knows what to do (to get rid of it) any help would be appreciated.
